Edward S. Redington papers, 1850-1888.

Redington's letters (1862-1865) during his Civil War service with the 28th Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry and the 7th Army Corps give details on Mississippi River naval campaigns, military actions in Arkansas and Mississippi, his company's rebuilding of bridges and fortifications, and army and camp life in general. His diary (1850) of a trip from Wisconsin to California describes travel conditions, animal life, geography, and settlements on the route, with a few brief entries on gold mining near Georgetown, Calif. Six letters to his wife describe a second trip in 1853. The collection also includes biographical and genealogical data on Redington and his family.
